Living In A Hostile World

Jan 2016 - Mar 2016
Sermons in this series
Date: Sunday, March 20, 2016       Teacher: Art Stansberry     Duration: 26 mins 25 secs
Passage: Daniel 9       Series Living In A Hostile World
Description: In Daniel 9 we get a ringside seat to Daniel's prayer on behalf of the Israelite captives. In his prayer Daniel asks for forgiveness for his sins and the sins of his people, and he petitions the Lord for mercy and the day that they would be allowed to return home. This Sunday, what we will learn is that in order to navigate our hostile world, we need to be men and women of prayer. Paul encourages us in Ephesians 6:18, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people." Prayer is the place where we prepare spiritually to meet a hostile world; prayer is the place where our souls find rest in the Lord's presence; and prayer is the place where we receive direction from the Lord on how He wants us to approach this hostile world. So join us this Sunday as we focus on the importance of remaining faithful in prayer.

Passage: Daniel 6       Series Living In A Hostile World
Description: This Sunday we will reengage with Daniel's story and what we will learn is that we need to navigate this hostile world with fear and reverence for the Lord. In Daniel chapter six we will see how Daniel was presented with a choice to either fear his political enemies or to fear the Lord. Daniel did not flinch in the face of all this pressure, and kept his eyes and his heart fixed on the Lord. What we will see is that when we are presented with the choice and we choose to seek after God and his righteousness, we will have made the better choice, no matter the circumstances.

Passage: Daniel 5       Series Living In A Hostile World
Description: This Sunday we will take a closer look at Daniel chapter five. In this passage Daniel is called upon once again to interpret God's message to the king. In his message the Lord warns the king of his sinfulness of idolatry and pride, and Daniel points out the king's refusal to honor God. What we will discover this week is that in order to navigate this hostile world, we are going to have to take a lesson from Daniel and make righteousness a priority in our lives. And, as we will witness in this passage, if we are unwilling to stand up for righteousness, then our kingdom will eventually fall.

Passage: Daniel 3       Series Living In A Hostile World
Description: This Sunday we will reach back to Daniel chapter three. In this passage we will witness the faith and courage of Daniel's three friends. What we will discover is that we cannot navigate a hostile world on our own; as Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." We need to surround ourselves with friends who will strengthen our faith and hold us to high standards. So join us this Sunday as we look at the importance of having faithful friends.

Passage: Daniel 4       Series Living In A Hostile World
Description: This Sunday, we will unpack Daniel chapter four. In this passage, Daniel is once again called on to interpret the king's dream; but this time the dream is a bad omen and a warning to the king. Daniel finds himself in an awkward position having to deliver terrible news and instruct the king how he should live. What we will learn from Daniel is that, as followers of Christ, we are called upon to speak the truth of salvation and grace to a lost and sometimes hostile world with love, compassion, and mercy. Jesus said in John 8:32, "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." What we will discover is that the only way that people will truly be free from the bonds of sin is through the Gospel message, spoken in love.

Passage: Daniel 2       Series Living In A Hostile World
Description: In Daniel chapter two, Daniel is called upon to know and interpret the dream of the king of Babylon - an impossible task for anyone. The only way that Daniel could even begin to complete this mission would be through the power of an almighty God. Through Daniel's faith and willingness to be used by the Lord, the Lord not only saved Daniel's life, but received glory and honor through Daniel's service. This week we will learn that we need to dream to be used by God and let Him work through us.

Passage: Daniel 1       Series Living In A Hostile World
Description: As we watch the news and see events unfold, it is becoming ever apparent that we are living in troubling times. In this sermon series, we will be looking at the life of Daniel to see how he was able to navigate living in a very hostile world. In Daniel chapter one, we see that Daniel places his integrity in the Lord by not defiling himself with the food sacrificed to idols from the king's table. As we live in an increasingly hostile world, we would do well to emulate Daniel's approach and be men and women of integrity.
