Passage: Luke 2:8-18       Series OUR COMING SAVIOR
Description: This Sunday we will dissect the role that the shepherds played in the story of our coming Savior. It's very curious that the angels would announce the Messiah's birth, not to kings or religious officials, but to ordinary shepherds. We might deduce that by going to the lowly shepherds, the angels were proclaiming that the Gospel is for the social outcast; or perhaps it was a foreshadowing that Jesus would be a shepherd for all the people; or if Christ's birth did come in the winter, we might conclude that the shepherds were raising sheep for the Passover a few months later and that the angels were hinting that Jesus would be the Lamb that would take away the sins of the world. Maybe it's all of the above, but I think the answer is found in the angelic message of Luke 2:11, "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord." On that silent night, a gift was given to you and to me. This Sunday we will unpack what our response should be in light of this great and wonderful gift.

Passage: Luke 2:1-7       Series OUR COMING SAVIOR
Description: We are not sure that there was an actual "innkeeper," but we read in Luke 2:7 that at the time of our Savior's arrival there was no room for Him. This Sunday we will explore what it means to not only make room for Jesus, but to give Him the entire room. We will discover that our lives are forever changed when we allow Jesus to take control. We will also see that when Jesus moves-in, we also have more room in our hearts than we ever thought possible - room enough for others. But the most incredible thing that we will discover is that when we make room for Jesus, He in turn will make room for us.

Passage: Luke 1       Series OUR COMING SAVIOR
Description: The beginning of the Christmas story does not start with Mary and Joseph, or even with the shepherds watching over their flocks. It begins with two unlikely characters by the name of Elizabeth and Zechariah. In their story the angel Gabriel foretells of the birth of their son, John, who would prepare the way for the Christ child. In Luke 1:17, the angel declares about John, "And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous-to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." This Sunday we will learn that, much like Elizabeth, Zechariah, and John, we too are to prepare others to receive the message of Jesus. So join us this Sunday as we begin this brand new sermon series, "Our Coming Savior."

Passage: Luke 10:1-4       Series Fields of Gold
Description: This Sunday, as we close out our sermon series on giving, we will answer the question why it is important to give to the Lord. What we will discover is that whether we are giving money, time, energy, or talents to the Lord, we are giving toward the harvest. In Matthew 9:37-38 we are told, "Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.'" We will learn that we are the workers in the harvest and that our efforts in giving are so that people can know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

Passage: Malachi 3:6-12       Series Fields of Gold
Description: This Sunday we will look at God's plan for giving. In Malachi chapter 3, God points out that His people had abandoned His plan for giving, which was why they were struggling financially. The Lord says in Malachi 3:10, "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it." This week we will unpack God's plan for partnering with Him through Priority giving, Percentage giving, and Progressive giving. So join us this Sunday as we dissect God's plan for giving.

Passage: Matthew 6:19-34       Series Fields of Gold
Description: This Sunday we will highlight how we are free to give - not free in the sense that we can give, but free in the sense that God can remove the barriers that can stand in our way of giving. We will see that we need to understand that our basic needs will be met by our heavenly Father. This fact should free us up to give as the Lord calls us to give. This freedom causes us to see that we are actually partners with God. As Jesus says in Matthew 6:33, we need to "seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Passage: Matthew 25:14-30       Series Fields of Gold
Description: This Sunday we will continue to spotlight the struggle between fear and generosity. In Matthew 25:14, Jesus digs down deep to help alleviate the tension of sowing in fear versus sowing in faith; and He does so by highlighting who really has ownership of our possessions. In the opening line of His parable Jesus says, "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them." Did you catch that? The wealth is the "man's," and God is this man. What we will find is that the Lord owns it all; He allows us to have access to these possessions; and this knowledge gives us the solution to the conflict we feel as we give.

Passage: Matthew 6:19-34       Series Fields of Gold
Description: This Sunday we will begin a sermon series that highlights the importance of generosity. In 2 Corinthians 8:2-3 Paul commends the generosity of the Macedonian churches by saying, "In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own." This week we will learn that generosity springs from a confidence in the Lord's provision for our lives, and that a lack of faith in the Lord is what actually causes us to abandon the fields of generosity. So this Sunday we will focus on the importance of sowing in faith rather than sowing in fear.

Passage: Acts 20:17       Series Disciple: Be One, Make One
Description: As we look through scripture, we can find strong men of God who trained the next generation for service in the kingdom. Moses had Joshua; Elijah had Elisha; Jesus had the 12 disciples; and Paul had Timothy. We are called to share the wisdom, knowledge, and experiences with others who are willing to learn. We will unpack Acts 20:17-37 where Paul addresses the Elders of Ephesus - men that he had personally taught for over two years. What we will learn this Sunday is that we need to show others how to start following the Lord; we need to show them how to persevere as we serve; and how to finish strong and complete the task to which Christ has called us.
