Passage: Mark 12:41-44       Series Got Talent
Description: We are excited to see what God will do this Sunday as we talk about the basics of giving. In Mark 12, Jesus watches a widow put two small copper coins in the offering at the temple. Then Jesus turns to his disciples and says this in verse 43-44, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything-all she had to live on." Sunday we will discover that this widow went above and beyond the basics in giving. As we unpack the basics in giving we will address the fears of giving; we will see the importance of giving an initial gift; and we will learn how to make our gift count for the Kingdom. So join us this Sunday as we discover how to be good stewards of our talents.

Passage: Luke 15:32       Series Homecoming
Description: This Sunday for "Homecoming", as we celebrate 110 years of ministry at Mount Carmel Christian Church, we will unpack the meaning of the parable of the Lost Son. One of the most powerful passages in all of scripture is found in Luke 15:32 where the father says to the older son, "But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." It is easy in this world to lose our bearing and find ourselves going the wrong way. But there is something comforting and soothing about finally coming home. This Sunday we will learn how easy it is to forget home and long for a distant country; we will learn how hard it is to take the first few steps toward home - but we will ultimately learn how rewarding it is to come home because that is where the Father is waiting for us. So join us this Sunday for Homecoming as we celebrate our Mount Carmel family.

Passage: Matthew 25:14       Series Got Talent
Description: Jesus says in Matthew 6:21, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." It has often been said that if we want to know what we treasure then make an assessment on what we spend our time and our money. In Matthew 25, Jesus tells us the parable of the talents to show us what our role is in the Kingdom of Heaven. This Sunday we will learn to recognize the source of our talents, we will learn to recognize our role in His kingdom, and we will learn to recognize the steps to being a better steward in the kingdom.

Passage: 1 Corinthians 13       Series Members Only
Description: This Sunday we will unpack what it means to be a loving member of the body of Christ. Love is the central component within our faith. The very purpose we were created is so that we could be loved and give love in return. In fact, love drove Jesus to take our sins upon himself and pay the price for our sin-debt. And what separates Christianity from all other world religions is agape love. This Sunday we will close out our sermon series by studying Paul's description of love found in 1 Corinthians chapter thirteen. What we will learn is the importance of love. We will see a clear picture of what love looks like and the power that love holds.

Passage: Acts 2:42-47       Series Members Only
Description: This Sunday we will discuss the importance of being a healthy member of the Body of Christ. As we look through the scriptures, we get a clear picture of what a healthy church looks like in Acts 2:42-47. In Acts 2:42 Luke describes the church by saying, "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." In other words, the Church had a laser-like focus on several areas of their Christian walk. This Sunday, we will spotlight some of those key elements and how we can apply them to our lives in order to be spiritually healthy members of the Church.

Passage: Acts 1       Series Members Only
Description: We see in scripture that Jesus instilled within His disciples the importance of prayer. They had watched and heard Jesus pray and were so impressed that they asked Him to teach them to pray. After Jesus had ascended into heaven Acts 1:13-14 tells us, "When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers." We even see that Apostle Paul encourages the church to "pray without ceasing." As a member of the body of Christ, we have been called to be "praying members." This Sunday we will unpack how to pray and why prayer is vitally important.

Passage: Mark 10:35-45       Series Members Only
Description: So what does it mean to be a member of the body of Christ? It means that we seek out and embody an attitude of humility. Time and time again, we see that God is glorified through hearts that are humble. As we jump into the third installment of our sermon series, we find that humility is vital to the health of the body of Christ. Even Jesus told his disciples in Mark 10:42-43, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant." This Sunday what we will discover is that humility honors God, pride and arrogance will destroy a church, and humility within the church fosters an attitude of love.

Passage: John 17:20-26       Series Members Only
Description: This past Sunday we launched into a new sermon series asking the question, "What does it mean to be a member of the body of Christ?" This Sunday we will discover that we need to be "Unified Members" of the body of Christ. Jesus said in his prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane in John 17:22-23, "I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one. I in them and you in me-so that they may be brought to complete unity." This Sunday we will discover that unity is critical in the body of Christ, and we will learn that this unity is reached by our shared Faith in Christ Jesus and in the mission to reach others for Christ.

Passage: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31       Series Members Only
Description: We are beginning a new sermon series this Sunday entitled, "Members Only." This sermon series is not just for Mount Carmel church members, but is designed to help us understand what it means to be a member of the body of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 the Apostle Paul writes, "Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body-whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free-and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many." So what does it mean to be an "active member" of the body of Christ? We will discover this Sunday that to be an active member means that even though we are different individually, we work together. It means that everything we say and do is built on a foundation of love, and it means that true membership is functioning membership. We know that our good deeds will not save us, but as Jesus said in Matthew 7:20, "Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them." Join us Sunday as we discuss what it means to be an effective member of the body of Christ.
