Passage: Luke 1       Series First Christmas
Description: Mary was a normal teenage girl, from a nowhere town, who would have married a poor man, who would have traveled not too far from her home, and she would have died like so many other women who lived in that era. But Jesus changed everything. In Luke 1:28-29 we are told, "The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. Chosen by God to carry His one and only Son, Mary would be blessed not only to give birth to the Christ-child, but to watch Him grow into a man, and eventually embrace Him as her Savior. Jesus changed everything for Mary and He can do the same for us. This Sunday we will discover that Jesus can truly change our lives as well. Join us this Sunday, invite a friend, and come worship, grow, and serve with us.

Passage: Luke 2       Series First Christmas
Description: In Luke 2:4-7 we are told, "Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." We are not sure who the innkeeper was. We are not even told that there was an innkeeper, but we do know that there was no room for Jesus as he entered our world. This Sunday we will look at that first Christmas and ask the question, "have we made room for Jesus?"

Passage: John 1       Series Prove It
Description: This Sunday we will set out to prove that Jesus really is God. The Apostle John said about Jesus in John 1:1-3, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." Jesus is a part of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Holy Spirit, and God the Son. But what proofs do we have that Jesus really is God? Well, this Sunday we will look at eye-witness accounts of miracles that He performed, and we will recount His resurrection from the dead. Finally we will look at personal testimonies that speak to the truth that Jesus really is God.

Passage: 2 Peter 4:7-19       Series Prove It
Description: In speaking to the New Testament Church, the apostle John says in 1 John 4:7-8, "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." The truth in the scriptures tells us that God is love; we see it clearly printed in black and white. But how do we prove it to a world that sees evil and hatred in every news story on television and in the papers? How do we Prove It? This Sunday we will look at some convincing proofs of God's love for us, and we will learn how we can prove it to a skeptical world.

Passage: Romans 1:20       Series Prove It
Description: This Sunday we will kick off a new sermon series and tackle some hard, age-old questions, such as: Is God really a God of love and is Jesus really God? We will unpack a question that people have asked throughout the ages, "Does God really exist?" The Apostle Paul gives an answer to this question by writing in Romans 1:20, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." This Sunday we will explore the truth about God's existence, and set out to Prove it!

Passage: 1 Timothy 6:6-11       Series Got Talent
Description: This Sunday, as we draw this sermon series on stewardship to a close, we will unpack how we can begin to make the next steps up the generosity ladder. The ultimate example of giving is found in God's great gift to us in Jesus Christ. Jesus says in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." God gave because of his great love for us. This Sunday we will learn that we give because of our love for him. We will talk about how we can move the large barriers that might keep us from giving, and how we can look at life with an eternal perspective.

Passage: 2 Corinthians 9:6       Series Got Talent
Description: In 2 Corinthians 9:6, Paul tells us, "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously." So what does it take for us to be an extravagant giver? This Sunday we will discover that it takes a willingness to stretch ourselves in the area of giving, it takes a desire to be generous with others, and we need to resolve that we will use our talents to fully accomplish God's purpose in this world.

Passage: Hebrews 12:1       Series Got Talent
Description: This Sunday is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Persecution against Christians is spreading at an alarming rate and yet the gospel of Jesus Christ is spreading in spite of this persecution. We will look at Hebrews chapter twelve and discover that being obedient to the Lord requires faithful endurance. It means that we need to be faithful even in the small things. It means that we need to be faithful followers unto the end, even the end of the race that the Lord has marked out for us. So join us this Sunday as we highlight the persecution of our brothers and sisters that is taking place around the world, and as we unpack what it means to truly be obedient.

Passage: Mark 12:41-44       Series Got Talent
Description: We are excited to see what God will do this Sunday as we talk about the basics of giving. In Mark 12, Jesus watches a widow put two small copper coins in the offering at the temple. Then Jesus turns to his disciples and says this in verse 43-44, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything-all she had to live on." Sunday we will discover that this widow went above and beyond the basics in giving. As we unpack the basics in giving we will address the fears of giving; we will see the importance of giving an initial gift; and we will learn how to make our gift count for the Kingdom. So join us this Sunday as we discover how to be good stewards of our talents.

Passage: Luke 15:32       Series Homecoming
Description: This Sunday for "Homecoming", as we celebrate 110 years of ministry at Mount Carmel Christian Church, we will unpack the meaning of the parable of the Lost Son. One of the most powerful passages in all of scripture is found in Luke 15:32 where the father says to the older son, "But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." It is easy in this world to lose our bearing and find ourselves going the wrong way. But there is something comforting and soothing about finally coming home. This Sunday we will learn how easy it is to forget home and long for a distant country; we will learn how hard it is to take the first few steps toward home - but we will ultimately learn how rewarding it is to come home because that is where the Father is waiting for us. So join us this Sunday for Homecoming as we celebrate our Mount Carmel family.
