Community Outreach

Be the hands and feet of Christ!

“Jesus says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

At Mount Carmel, we are on a mission to love and serve our community. We want to help those in need and give hope to those who are hurting. We encourage our members to serve in those areas where their talents and the community’s needs meet. We might offer the perfect opportunity for your service here at Mount Carmel. Perhaps another nearby church or charitable organization has the perfect service opportunity for you. Or your passions may lead you to create your own ministry opportunity. Here are some opportunities you can pursue through Mount Carmel.

Community Outreach Opportunities

Feed the homeless (downtown Atlanta)

On the fourth Friday of every month, Mount Carmel volunteers feed the homeless in downtown Atlanta. You can help in many ways. Give money to buy food. Help prepare the food. Go downtown to help serve the food. Food preparation begins at 3:15 p.m. in the kitchen at Mount Carmel, and volunteers leave the church at 5:15 p.m. We serve the food at the corner of Peachtree and Pine Streets in downtown Atlanta. Volunteer at Lilburn Co-op.

One of the local missions supported by Mount Carmel, Lilburn Co-op serves those in our community who do not have adequate food, clothing or shelter. You can sort, organize and store donations, assist in the thrift store, donate food or even organize a food drive. August is Mount Carmel’s designated month to fill up the co-op’s pantry, but you can help anytime of the year. More information.

Weekend Food Ministry

Donate to our weekend food ministry for school children.

Mount Carmel is an active supporter of Nothing but the Truth’s weekend food ministry. The effort provides “Weekend Food Bags” for children in local elementary schools who have been identified by their school counselors as being in need of additional food for the weekend. These children participate in the Free/Reduced Lunch Program during the week but struggle over the weekends. Bags are sent home with the kids every Friday in their backpack and include easy-open/self-serve foods. Click here for a complete list of items. Bring your items to one of our collections bins in the church. Contact Sheila McGaughey. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Volunteering at Lilburn Elementary School or another school in your area.

Do you like kids? Do you like to read? Do you just want to give time to invest in a student's life? There are many ways you can get involved in our local schools from working with small groups of kids or listening while a kid reads to you. Many of the kids just need a mentor in their life. No special skills are required, just a loving heart willing to share the love with kids in need. Contact Keri Duncan. This email address is being protected from spambots.
