Members Only: Being an Active Member

1 Corinthians 12:12-31 by Art Stansberry
Series:Members Only
We are beginning a new sermon series this Sunday entitled, "Members Only." This sermon series is not just for Mount Carmel church members, but is designed to help us understand what it means to be a member of the body of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 the Apostle Paul writes, "Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body-whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free-and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many." So what does it mean to be an "active member" of the body of Christ? We will discover this Sunday that to be an active member means that even though we are different individually, we work together. It means that everything we say and do is built on a foundation of love, and it means that true membership is functioning membership. We know that our good deeds will not save us, but as Jesus said in Matthew 7:20, "Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them." Join us Sunday as we discuss what it means to be an effective member of the body of Christ.
